Fragrant yellow orchid seeks name
Hi everyone,
I purchased this little guy at my local orchid store. It did not have a name and the orchid buyer could not remember what it was listed as (maybe it was part of a bulk buy).
It is an extremely fragrant orchid (it reminds me of the scent of a zygo), its buds are bronzey green chrome yellow, and its slightly waxy leaves last and last.
Any hints or leads would be appreciated.
Thanks, MrsSky

I've never seen anything like that before, so can't help you out with the ID. Some sort of Oncidium alliance hybrid, probably one that falls under that commercial umbrella name of cambria.

Ooops, I meant waxy flowers and not leaves. Thank you for the cambria lead, I will try searching with that.

Hi! I think it is a hybrid of Oncidium. Like in where i live, Thailand, we have many Onciduim hybrids revealed to the market. It's hard to name each of them since they are not officially registered but they do look pretty and smell like heaven. What I am always told is like "It's an oncidium and you'r buying it!"
I haven't seen this one before. I like the way the green leaves hook back. It really makes the white part in front look outstanding. One thing for sure your guy is very handsome. Good luck!

Cambria is not a real orchid name, but since commercial growers insist on calling almost all Onc hybrids by that made up name, you might get lucky and find something similar to yours.

Thank you for your responses. I still don't have any leads but I did purchase another one this weekend since I love its fragrance. I can't believe it doesn't have a name but I am coming to grips with its apparent NOIDness.

I am pretty sure it is what White Rabbit said, that it is an Odontoglossom. Most Odontoglossom species, and therefore hybrids, are characterized by the "teeth" that are on the labellum (a.k.a. lip). Though it will never get a specific name, knowing that it is an Odontoglossom will help you with culture
