It's a Masdevallia of some sort, I would assume it's a hybrid...hopefully someone more versed in Masdies will chime in...

looks very much like Masdevallia Pichincha, which is a hybrid available in Australia. Check thos thread: http://www.orchidboard.com/community...devallias.html I would suggest to contact and ask 'Bolero' for his advice/opinion, as he has this hybrid in Australia.

Really pretty Masdevallia. Does look a lot like the one Ramons suggests, or at least a very similar hybrid.

That is a lovely Masdevalia.
And welcome to OB. What you will learn here about orchids is better than any university.

Hi and welcome to the forum. I personally don't think it's Pichincha although it could be a parent. I am not sure exactly what it is though. Do you know Peter Jackson in Somerset (near Burnie?). They may be able to help you ID this one or you could try this company:
mt beenak orchids - cool growing orchids, growing, flowers
Sorry I can't help with that one. I am from Tasmania originally as well.......good to meet you.
