I used to have this plant for several years and it even bloomed for me under low light and total neglect. It didn't have a tag so I didn't know the name thus it didn't get the proper care needed.

Now I know that it was some kind of Masdevallia. Since it was doing OK even without much TLC, I want to try again but this time hope to get enough info to be able to keep a new one alive longer

Thanks!

Looks like a hybrid and that makes it quite hard to ID.

Thanks!

Ron, your profile pic looks like one of these. Is that one an easy one?

Brother, this was an old plant I had 10 years ago and it already went to orchid heaven Only have 3 pictures left of it. At that time I didn't know what it was and didn't pay much attention to it. Watered it when I remembered. The leaves dried and fell off, I almost thought that it was going to die but a few leaves still hanging on so I kept watering and it survived for a few more years and rebloomed a few times even looking half-dead like that. It was so easy for me than a Phal, that's why I want to get a new one to start over again but I don't know the name.

personally, I think the hardest part in dealing with most pleuros is maintaining proper temps and humidity. If, indeed, the only issue with the above plant was watering frequency, then I think any general hybrid will do well for you

PS but I've only been growing them for a few years. So let someone else chime in

You know the problem as to why the leaves dropped, just don't do it again. This time around if it happens again, it may not forgive you.

Sorry can't help with the ID. If they're hybrids, they're so difficult to identify unless they're very distinct. Most people have done similar breeds, but used different names. That's just how it is with hybrids.

You'd get better chances of getting a solid ID if it were a species.

Philip, you just pushed the guilt button! I know I was bad. It was one of my very first orchids and I really adored it as it was very different from other orchids that I've known. I was very sad when it died and I didn't buy any new orchids for a long time (until I found the Vanda last month). I had this little plant along a Phal and didn't know how to take care of it only knew that Phals don't like too much water so I did the same to this guy but turned out to be a bad thing.

It was on my kitchen windowsill but we had to remodel the kitchen so I had to move it away. Got too involved in the kitchen project, it was out of sight, out of mind for a while then it was too late

I promise to do my best if I find another one of these

Very pretty whatever it was.
