Default ID Purple Cattelya?

I bought this purple cattleya years ago at the local farmer's market. The plant thrives, divided many times. Unfortunately, I failed to ID it. Any clue as to ID?

There could be thousands of crosses with similar appearance, and unless it is a widely distributed clone it can be virtually impossible to identify a noid Cattleya hybrid. Even more difficult if it is a seedling or unregistered cross.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was an offspring of Cattleya (Cattlianthe) Chocolate Drop. The shine and texture would be typical of that type. There are several hundred of them and they are often grown for sale as cheap plants in flower. Still just a guess.

How big is the flower? The plant? Can you show a picture of the whole plant? It might help someone narrow it down.

Looks a lot like C. Bactia 'Grape Wax', but this is only a guess. Is it fragrant?

The first thing that came to mind when I saw the picture were both that have been mentioned already, perhaps it is a cross of the two? Or if it is C. Bactia 'Grape Wax' maybe it is a 4N since the form of the flower is pretty full if that makes any sense?

Default Perhaps Cattleya Bactia 'Grape Wax'

Becca/ Kim

Thanks to you both. Perhaps Cattleya Bactia 'Grape Wax'? Now you have me second guessing the "fragrance" question. Did I miss it?

The reason I say that, is that my Cattleya 'Penang 'Black Caesar' came into bloom just a few days ago, and I was noticing the fragrance just this morning, so similar to roses. Seems I would have noticed fragrance on the other orchid; but maybe no.

You asked about size. About 16"-18" high I've attached some more photos that will give you a better idea.

thanks again,

David
