Default Dendrobium identification please

Purchased for a few dollars off a table with dead/dying orchids. Never had a Dendrobium so I thought I'd give it a try. She's now given me 2 nice spikes (14 and 12 buds) and her first 2 flowers have finally burst. I would like to have a name to give her. Can anyone identify?

Your flowers are lovely, but an ID will be almost impossible without a tag. There are so many hybrids that look pretty similar.

Thanks Joann, that's what I figured. I'll make up my own name, Purple Princess?

I would not care about giving a name. It is some Dendrobium phaleanopsis based hybrid. Even if it had a name it may not be registered. I have a Dendrobium Salaya Candy... You can't trace the parentage. I got it to rebloom and looks healthy.
I think it is better to give no name rather than giving an arbitrary name that down the road could create more confusion.
Regarding culture I would refer to Dendrobium biggibum, D. phalaenopsis, antelope Dendrobiums etc...

I was joking about the name. Actually I was happy that it turned out to be as pretty as it is, seeing as how I got it. Knowing the name is nice but not a big deal to me. I'm a newbie. Received my first two orchids (Phals) about 7 years ago and I'm lucky I still have them since I treated them like regular plants for the first 4 years I had them.

Thanks for the information about culture. I will look that up so I can keep it healthy and hopefully will get it to bloom again next year.

I kind of like the Purple Princess name. I name all my noids...it's easier to keep track of them. So you could have Den. Purple Princess Noid.

Love it! I give all of them names too but I won't use them anywhere but in my head. It took her almost 3 weeks to open her first flower on each spike but now she's opening one every day. Guess their flowers must not last for months like my Phals. Pretty to watch even if it lasts for a short time.
