I heard that a spike down the middle of the plant will kill the plant, I would suggest that you make some keikis
Maybe look at this one

Get some keiki paste on the nodes on the flower spike and hopefully you will get some babys.

Basal baby with spike!
I have a basal kieki and it's sending out it's first spike on my Phal Tai Pei Gold X Cassandra #2 !
This was taken today! ...
(See Dennis, it was a spike not a root )

That's been my experience too ... when a spike and/or keiki emerges from the center of the crown, that plant never grows new leaves (or flowers for that matter). As soon as the keiki has roots, separate it from the mother plant; hopefully it will develop and bloom normally.

Good info on that link ! I had an experience where my Phal had crown rot. I stopped the spread with cinnamon. I was told that the already 2" basal keiki would take over, which it did. It became a healthy new plant as the old plant dropped its leaves while nurturing the new one ! The advice was from Tom Mirenda (hope he doesn't mind me dropping his name here !) whom I ALWAYS call DOCTOR Tom now !!! We're lucky to have him locally as a NCOS member !
