Some ID requests and questions... Male
Default Some ID requests and questions...

Hello, I'm new here. I have a few orchids that I would love to have identified and a few I have questions about. None are flowering now so I'm just looking for genus.

1.) I would just like to know what it is.

2.) I would just like to know what it is. Its flower spikes come from atop the canes.

3.) I would just like to know what it is. Its flower spikes come from atop the canes.

4.) Are these pods normal size for about a month and half of growth. They seem small. They are on plant three, which I think is a Den Phal.

5.) Can this be divided while it is forming pods? This is plant three as well.

6.) What's wrong here? Over watered or under watered?

7.) Is the yellowish rim normal for this miniature Phal?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Snooze, Welcome to OB. There are a lot of people here who will help you, but I'm a relative newbie and I'm not sure what the plants are, exactly. You'll learn a whole lot here. I sure have.

Hi Snooze and welcome to the Orchid Board. The first one looks to be a Brassavola type. the second is a Dendrobium. Yes the capsules look normal to me. If you plan on using the seeds I would wait otherwise it looks as it could use new Bark mix (repot). The Phal may have been negected and looks as it maybe coming back. I don't know about your last question.

#6 is over potted. So, it's "over watered", but not in the way that you're probably thinking. Rather the "over watering" is an indirect result of over potting. There may be severe root damage underneath the media. Luckily there are new roots growing.

As for the Dendrobium with the pod, I don't think it'd be wise to repot or divide the plant when it is bearing fruit like that. They can drop off.

Hello and Welcome to OB!

I am suspecting #1 is a Brassocattleya hybrid with Brassovola nodosa in its background.

#2 & 3 are Dendrobiums.

Nice collection - well grown!

#7 - I have several Phalaenopsis that have the yellow rim on the leaves. I don't know what causes it but they've been that way for a long time and the plants are growing well.
