This was my Grandfathers pride and joy, does anyone know what type of orchid this is?

Well it's a Dendrobium.

It's one which someone should be able to at least tell you a predominant species in it's background but I can't I recognize the look immediately but just can't summon up the name. Hopefully someone else will know the one I'm thinking of.

I believe it's a deciduous orchid which will need a winter rest period.

If you think your memory is bad now Rosie, just wait until you get past 70.

I had no trouble identifying it as Den. nobile because I have a big plant flowering under the pergola at my back door and I went out and picked a flower and compared it with Wok's photo.
