A true blue (as aposed to a purple blue) is very rare in orchids (if it even exists). Those refered to as blue are generally a bluey purple.

One of the closest to blue that I've seen has to be Ascosenda Princess Mikasa 'Blue' I was looking for pictures in my computers but they got erased. If you do a search you can find threads here with photos.

There are quit a few good blue orchids out there. For some good blue Vanda check out the photos at Untitled 1
but I need to caution you that while there are some outstanding blues in this gallery they are exceptional specimen plants and rare color forms.

You can expect to pay a high premium for top color.

If the color is very important, you would have to see the plant in bloom. The color especially on Vanda change drastically from one plant to another.

The photo of V. Banjong is an example. The photo is very accurate but I have three in bloom today and not any blue at all. They are pink to maroon.

Look at the two photos of V. Mini Palmer - Theo Boon Hian x V. coerulea. One is a good blue and the other is nothing like the first.

The color form of V. Robert's Delight 'Blue Mum' is so rare the grower would have cut off my hands if I touched it.

Does anyone feel the same as me about those dyed orchids......I hate it. They are so beautiful naturally why the heck dye them that awful gawdy blue? It's a bit like when they dress animals up in costumes or dye their fur, I hate that too!

i think all died flowers look un-natural and stupid! flowers are so brilliant to begin with.

( no hard feelings, if you feel differently)

I'm not a fan of dyed flowers, but they can be artistically done. I don't hate them as much as I hate artificial flowers and plants, especially fake orchids. As for animals in costume or dyed fur, if it can be accomplished with no more harm or discomfort to the animal than a collar or a bath, they deserve a little glamour too. It certainly isn't as bad as a poodle groomed for show.
