Default Trichoceros species

Anyone recognize this?

http://www.flickr.com/photos/ronaldhanko/4863568434/

I'm just putting the link in -these new Flickr pages have me so frustrated that I'm ready to quit Flickr.

A picture of the plant can also be found at: http://orchidsinbloom-ron.blogspot.c...s-species.html

Looks like trichoceros antennifer...although I've only seen antennifer and muralis in person. Looks awesome whatever it is!

Thanks, Calvin. It may be that, but I've had trouble using IOSPE to confirm that ID.

It sure looks like that but personally I hesitate do to identifications like this based on the the internet. To many wrongly labed pictures (also on IOSPE). Try to find a book where there is reall descriptions.

Neither do I. I had a look at all the species at IOSPE and the most similar to me was not antennifer but IOSPE PHOTOS . This due to shape of the lip and the column. But like I said identification over pictures on the internet is difficul with any orchid. Best you can do is hope for some specialist to show up but with this genus I'm not confident on this happening.

Part of the problem with the pictures on IOSPE is that the data given doesn't match - this is from Peru and the one you've shown is from Ecuador - could still be from Peru, but that isn't stated.

Some of the pictures on ISOPE are plain wrong or not sufficient to identify a species. But this is a common problem even in some books.

Not only books on orchids-have a wildflower book that has several glaring mistakes in it even though it's supposed to be the last word.
