very kool!!!! There are a few varieties of B. rothschildianum and they all look very similar to yours. Judge for yourself,

It looks more to rothschildianum then any of the hybrids I've been able to find with it (colour is most of the time not a key to determine a species due to the natural variation).
To be honest I don't understand why people make hybrids with species like this it makes reall identification imposible and it doesn't really ad any commercial value.

Good point Rob. I mean, the pictures of roth (and other Bulbs) I've seen are pretty spectacular - why mess around with that? I found my flower quite surprising - I hadn't seen the spike growing, was walking past one day and it stopped me in my tracks.
Well...I guess I'll label it roth for now. And next time it flowers, try to self it (I'll be breathing through my mouth for that job). And flask up some seed, deflask a couple of years later, wait 5-7 years for the flowers and see if it throws true to type. If they're all close to the parent, I figure that'd be a good indication that it's not a hybrid.
Hmmm...maybe I should flask something that smells sweeter...nah. I'll probably give this a shot just to be contrary. And the flowers are stunning.
Cheers,
Aus.

I acquired a two p-bulb division of B. rothschildianum, it grew one more bulb recently and I was wondering how many more need to grow before it blooms?
Thx

Min flowered at three bulbs. I just repotted it and it's growing another one.
So...any time now, or it may choose to wait until it has 4 bulbs - good luck!
Cheers,
Aus.

Thank you!
I'm looking forward to this one, but I didn't think rothschildianum had a bad odour, so I guess I've learned something today! Does the spike come from the top of the leaf or btm of the bulb?
