At the 2009 Ann Arbor Orchid Show I saw an orchid either a catt or phal where the anther cap looked exactly like a bird. I forgot to take a picture of it and I've been searching for it ever since. The flower was all purple but what made this one different was that the anther cap had two black dots on either side of it that looked like eyes. It was shaped like the torso/head/beak of a bird as well. I'm beginning to wonder if someone was having fun with a sharpie marker because I haven't seen anything else like it. Thank you so much for your input.

There are a lot of orchids that are related to Vandas that have that description.

A few that come to mind are:

Cleisostoma
Stereochilus
Smitinandia

The pedals were much more broad??? More like this but the anther was different

The symmetric small black dots on the sides of the anther cap so perfectly resembled eyes that I wondered if someone had painted them on.

Has anyone ever seen small symmetrical black dots on either side of the anther cap?

Thank you for your help
