Yes, den-phals are hard cane.
Yes, rest would start in about Oct/Nov

Would I treat a kingi the same as a den phal then? Since your instructions are for hard cane dens. But letting the kingi stay out in the cold a bit longer?

I would, but then mine stay outside all year round. Dens tend to be quite hardy orchids in my experience. Biggest problem I have with soft cane is the snails and caterpillars just love them! Also the damned parrots can chop a whole plant to pieces in minutes. They have decided they really like eating my geraniums in hanging baskets at the moment

Oh, just to add to that, mine stay out all year round because it never falls below freezing here.
