Dendrobium, almost certainly, but it doesn't quite look like kingianum to me.

A Dendrobium definatly not kingianum or one of it's closer relatives. A nobile could be possible to but closer identification needs flowers.

Hi, I have heaps of dens as a lot of them are native to Oz. I'll stick my neck out and say it's not a nobile type, know as soft cane dens here. I think it's a hard cane type which is what kingianum is.

okay, so its a hard cane den? i think thats what the general thought is, right? so how am i supposed to know how to care for it. i know it would probably like free draining media so it can have frequent waterings during the growing season. but, what about a winter rest, is there any way i can tell if it needs one or not? and how much of one

I have a noid Noble type dendrobium that looks an awful lot like this one - especially the new growth - the new shoot on mine looks just like the new shoot in your first pic.

Hi help, I can only tell you what I do here in Oz. Hard cane dens are hardy little buggers but they don't like too much sun or they burn. I have mine in medium grade bark. They like a rest over the autumn and start of the winter here in Oz. Now it's late winter most of mine are spiking like crazy, some are even in bloom already. Mine probably get watered about every 2-3 weeks during their rest and that's only about half a cup over the bark. When they start to show signs of active growth I water them weakly/weekly. During the summer I water them every 2-3 days as it's often 90+ for weeks on end here.
Hope that helps

are den-phals considered hard cane dens? because i have one of those, and know how to take care of it just fine. i dont now what your months are but would you start the rest when trees start to lose their leaves?
are kingianum considered hard cane?
thanks!

I wouldn't worry about rest period for this right now. As it gets bigger it will be easier to figure out what type of den it is. Before that point I wouldn't "rest" it anyway - it's a baby, and even if it were a nobile, doesn't need a rest at this point, and could likely die if water is withheld

shouldn't be too long before it is some-what identifiable - just needs to be a bit bigger I think
