Phal 'Ember' - Orchid Board

I'm wondering if anyone knows of or where I might find the parentage of Phal 'Ember'? I'm curious as to where it got its good looks and wonderful fragrance.

My first thought when I read your post was to dive off to the same site Ted has linked to... that really is a great reasouce.

Just to add to what Ted has said about using it. I find I get the best results if I don't put anything in the Genus field. That way if it has been reclasified you may still be able to find what you are looking for... BUT note that the same name can be used for different hybrid in different genus, so you have to watch for that. For example there is a Cattleya Ember and your Phal would definately NOT have been reclasified as Cattleya.

Thanks everyone that was very helpful!!! I KNEW it had some phal violacea in it-- as its center has this spark or...perhaps the motivation for the name, "Ember" in its center.

help-- hard to describe but it has a very sweet, sugary scent reminiscent of nectar. Instantly transports you to the tropics when you smell it. But it only smells at certain times-- for mine, its mid-morning, when things are warming up. That is when it smells the strongest. Then again in the evening when I believe the temps pass through that temp range again as the area cools.

I have just noticed I have an orchid emblem underneath my id. Can anyone tell me what that means?

It means you have arrived! LOL!

Perhaps it means you've posted enough or are a member who has been on the board for the required period of time.

The orchids under names indicate the number of posts you have made.

I can't remember the numbers just now, but at various levels of posts you get another orchid.

A purple orchid means you are an OB supporter and you get some other perks for that, click on the purple orchid under my name for more details.

Generally the flowers are yellow, but moderators and admins get white flowers.
