Dendrobium....Phalaenopsis or Nobile

please help me tell whether this is a Dendrobium Phalaenopsis or a Dendrobium Nobile. I just got it, and i need to know which one so i can know how to take care of it. i know how to take care of dendrobium phalaenopsis, but i have no idea how to care for dendrobium nobile. so if it is den. nobile, please tell me how to take care of it.

Well both the flower pics looks like they are Den phal types, so if yours is the same as one of them it's likely to be that.

I would sort of guss the same from the pic of your plant. It seems it may have a spike forming and nobile types have flowers down the lengh of the cane each on small little spikes, rather than the cane growing a spike to hold all the flowers like phal types do.

The purple one is a Phalaenopsis type. The yellow one I'm not sure of. As far goes as your plant I don't know.

Ted, you are right about the second flower being a bit different to the phal types... but I have one with just the same flower shape and it grows just like a phal type even if it doesn't have any of that in the make-up. As far as care goes, I think if it has either of those flowers then it can be treated the same as a phal type.

okay, someone said that it might not be a den-phal because the spikes are coming from the sides of the cane

I have been told that spikes on den-phals don't always come from the top of the cane, and your spikes are in-between foliage, so I'm not sure that rules out a den-phal. And the foliage on yours isn't all up and down the length of the cane, like I would expect on a nobile type, tho I certainly am far from an expert lol. Since it has spikes, it should be easy enough to determine once it blooms. The biggest difference in care between the two types is that nobiles generally want a cool dry winter rest to induce the next years buds, so there is time yet to make the determination
