Cattleya species id?? Male
Default Cattleya species id??

Hello,

This is a rescue plant from a University horticulture department. They have had it at least 12 years that they can remember (and never repotted!!). It is quite large, the pseudobulbs are probably 12-15 inchs long (about 20 of them). It is bifoliate but 2 of the pseudobulbs have 3 leaves on them. All leaves are quite long and leathery at about 6-8 in or more for each leaf. I repotted it in Feb and it immediately shot up 7 new growths. It just flowered last week from a not fully mature new growth. So a rather quick cycle. On this growth it has two flowers and had two more very small ones (but they died back due to some unknown reason. Anyways the flowers are lovely but quite small at 2-3 inch (considering the size of the plant) across and they have a delicate scent. Any ideas? They told me it was a species, I thought it might look like a bowringiana but the flowering season seems wrong (per orchid wiz). But not sure as I have never seen a bowringiana in real life.

Thanks
Micah Bishop
