Aerides?

Hi all.

In assisting the local Botanic Gardens with their orchids, this confiscated orchid does not have a tag.

Years ago (probably in the 80s), the local post office customs branch would give confiscated plants to the gardens instead of destroying them.

This beautiful orchid was one of the lucky ones. My guess is that it is an Aerides species.

Sorry for the poor pics...just had my iPhone on me. I'm going to take a better one when it fully opens.

Any IDeas?

It looks like an Aerides so far.

Only if customs would do that everywhere.

May I suggest Aerides odorata or Aerides lawrenceae? On the strength that it looks very similar to mine and this thread:

Melissa, can you get a better pic of the actual flower close up and in focus? It is not a vanda, looks very much like Aerides multiflora or quinqeuvulnera. Unlikely but maybe lawrencea.

Better pic would help. Wide shot of hte whole plant and closeup.

Looks like mine , an aerides which one not sure, lost the tag many years ago .. It is in bloom now ..might be
Aerides multiflora don't know why but gigantum comes to mind ?

We determined it to be Aerides multiflora and interestingly we found another back in the old greenhouse blooming and it is Aerides lawrenciae (larger flowers and not so tightly grouped on the spike).

They both have an overpowering scent. There is no hint of any other color except white and fuchsia.

The orchid show is this weekend so I will try to get a better photo.
