I think I can see the spines along the leaves and think, too, that it is Queen's tears but one that has been grown in too little light.

Hi Everyone, as I said, the flower is very close to what I remember, def. the right color and shape, so it seems very likely that it is queen's tears. Thanks all who were able to help me!

And it def. hasn't been getting enough light (well at least the one I photographed isn't, I actually have 4 of these total, so space is at a premium until some more plants go out for the summer).

Does anyone have any cultural tips about potting or anything else? I was hoping to get it potted in something more appropriate this weekend...I read online that a cactus mix with some bark mix would work for these guys. Also, they don't seem to have distinct cups the way I think of bromeliads having...should I be putting water into the center of each rosette?

I live in Southern California and I grow this plant in part shade, grows like a weed small clumps get big fast. not picky about soil although loose fast draining is best.

I bought a similar one and was called Queen Anne's Tears. And yes grows like a weed.

a good well draing mix is what it needs ...pro mix should work well for these.We just used the standard potting mix that we used at the nursery.

They will form a loos cup as they get bigger and yes let water sit in the cups when they do form.

ah yes, queens tears....i couldnt for the life of me remember the last part, lol....but it is grown in rich well drained soil, and you dont have to fill each cup with water, there are usually too many of em....
