I bought a plant that was labelled as Aerangis splendida. I exhibited it with that name many times and got its share of ribbons.
When displayed at the 2006 Massachusetts Orchid Show, AOS judges awarded it a 'provisional' CHM (Certificate of Horticulture Merit) 85 points. As this was the first time splendida was being recognized, taxonomic verification was required before the CHM could become permanent. I sent photos of the entire plant and some 'pickled' flowers to Marie Selby and was disappointed when the authority said this is brachycarpa, and not the more pleasant sounding splendida. The judges confirmed the award as brachycarp.
Advice here is that if you are adamant that the plant is something else, get confirmation from an AOS recognized taxonomist. (ID fees are $25 and up.)
BTW, my plant died within a few months of the CHM award. I think the name change killed it.
