Default What's This Orchid? Looks Like a Daffodil!

This is from the NY Botanical Garden's Orchid Show.

Can anyone tell me the name of this beauty?

Thanks!
Jeff

There are so many hybrids it's unlikely that you're going to get an exact name without a tag from the vendor.

Looks to me like it's from the Cattleya Alliance.

This orchid is the Cattlianthe Gold Digger "Orchid Jungle", hybrid resulting from crosses between the Cattlianthe Red Gold and the Cattlianthe Warpaint.

And yes, they do look like Daffodils- that's what I thought the first time I saw them years ago. And why I like them- Daffs/Narcissus are my favorite bulb.

Wolf is probably right but you can confirm by e-mailing your photo to NYBG ... it helps too if you remember where the plant was displayed in the show.

Okay, I'm curious...how can you be so sure of this beautiful chids name? I'm never comfortable with trying to guess at the name of a plant...sometimes you can't even fully trust the info on the tag

After Wolf answered my question, I did a google search.

Have a look at this post. I think it pretty accurately describes the orchid: Laelocattleya (Lc.) Gold Digger ?Orchid Jungle' HCC/AOS, Exotic Rainforest rare tropical plants

To confirm, this orchid has a special feature, the bulbs split when well hydrated, this particular note and confirm the nomenclature.
