It is deffinately Encyclia cordigera. As for the semi alba I think it should be left off. I think this is the type for the species.

Thanks very much. It is good to know it isn't a NOID
So one more question...do I leave it just hung on a tree through the wet season or give it some protection in the shade house?

Isn't there a var. rosea (pink lip) and a var. randii (white with a spot)?

I did some more digging. Carl, you were correct about it being a semi-alba. See link.
AOS | Encyclia cordigera
Royal, Thank you for bringing var randii up. I remember having seen it over the years. Now I know.

Oh, I am no authority on the subject. I was really asking because I'm learning myself. These varieties and formas can sometimes vary by tiny, subtle differences. Anybody know what the difference is between randii and semi alba? Could be the same thing, just different names used at different times. :

what you have is the type for the species.
the semi-alba form is known as f. leucantha, and has petals and sepals that are almost entirely green. there is also a var. rosea, with a pink lip.
var randii is actually a seperate species (do a search for Encyclia randii). randii does not have the large lip like cordigera
