Hi I am new to orchids and just bought this beautiful flower. It had no tag on it so I have not a clue to what it is. I need to know what kind of Orchid it is to learn how to care for it.

Hello Leda. Looks like you have a miniture Cattleya hybrid there. It is really cute. Here is a link for culture information.

I did a lot of research about mini Cattleyas. My wonderful husband bought me 3 books on Orchids. I think I found my Orchid in the book "Taylors Guide to Orchids" published 1996. Page 90 at the bottom is an Orchid called Laeliocattleya Mini Purple Tamani BM/JOGA. Height 8 inches, mine is 8 inches, blooms between fall and spring, I bought mine in Feb. and it has flowers on it so I guess thats right. Flowers 3 inches wide, thats right. The color in the book is right. Shape is right. I cant really tell, but the picture in the book looks like its a single leaf, mine is a double leaf. Hummmmm, Does anyone know anything about this Orchid? And what does BM/JOGA mean?

Hello Leda. Your little Cattleya does not look like a Lc. Mini Purple to me. But to answer your other question a BM/JOGA means that the plant has been awarded a Bronze Medal by the Japan Orchid Growers Association.
