Got this plant recently, and it is really interesting. It has large broad leaves like phal, and large flower like that looks like a large oncidium. Anybody knows what this is? Thanks

It's a Psychopsis. They used to be classified as Oncidiums. After they bloom, leave the spike alone. They will usually bloom again from the same spike.

I could be Psychopsis papilio or a hybrid of it.

Thank you so much for the fast reply! I was about to embark on searching through the entire orchid encyclopedia to look for a match. This plant is not common in my part of the world, and I really like it.

Yes, a Psychopsis, though which one is going to be all but impossible to determine. They're wonderful flowers. As Kip suggested, don't bother the spike after the bloom wilts because they will keep blooming from it. I have one at home that is about to bloom again from the same stem that first flowered about a year ago, and which has produced at least 7 or 8 flowers so far!

Will most definitely leave the spike alone.

My guess is Psychopsis Mendenhal. Psychopsis papilio has dark brown markings on the leaves.

Psychopsis Mendenhal usually doesn't.

Could be wrong.

Mendenhal is a hybrid.
