Thanks,
i never seen a Masdevallia with such large leaves, maybe 8" long. also in that section the temp was around 90 F. are there Masdevallias that grow in those conditions?

Stefano, 6 and 7 look like Den. nobile. Nice pictures!
That's irritating about the poor labeling, I feel like identifying plants helps people engage with them on more levels than when they're just displayed for aesthetic effect. And after all isn't a city botanical garden about helping people develop relationships with plants? Maybe you should write them a letter. I hope to go to BBG next time we visit my brother-in-law in Queens, maybe I'll pester them about it, too.

not a den nobile I think. looked like long / skinnier pendulous canes. well at the BBG they have a nice display and free access everywhere in the winter season and on tuesdays and sat mornings.
and regular admission is 8$.
The NYBG is always 20 $ to access to the conservatory.
The BBG has a nice natural display not too manicured. I think the majority of people do not care about tags / names - see more people more into drawing plants on their sketchbooks.
I also wish they had more botanical species than man made hybrds

It looks like a nobile to me. Mine has long, skinny, pendulous canes as well. If they are grown mounted or in hanging baskets the canes will hang down (to clarify, I'm talking about pics 6 and 7 in the first post, not the second one).

I think that you meant a Maxillaria. In fact on the first set of pictures the last 2 are Maxillarias. I can't tell you which species but definetely Maxillarias.

Are there Maxillarias that don't have pseudobulbs?

The pseudobulbs are there, the picture is shot an an angle where they're hard to see.
Maybe Stefano can take another photo of the plant from an angle that can show the pseudobulbs clearly.

If it has pseudobulbs, then I would agree it's a Maxillaria.

It's not a Masdevallia. I'm 100% sure of it.
It just looks like one.
