I love seeing how they grow when there's been no human intervention. Do you think the Cytropodium was growing on the tree trunk before it fell, or has it started since? How will it survive when the trunk goes completely to rot?

I wonder the same thing, I believe the plant came after the tree fell (there was a little one lower), The tree is a cypress tree which last for many year in swamp conditions, I have seen stump, that were cut back in the 30's and 40's still in remarkable state.

I check your posts as often as possible to see if you bring us new hiking, orchd pictures. From one hiker to an other thank you for the great pictures. I can't wait for the snow to melt over here so that I can get out and maybe find some nice specimens as well.

Into the very place that inspired the Orchidmaina book, to look for the elusive ghost orchid! Hope it's in bloom. Please take a couple of shots of the root system and how it's attached to the trunk, also take notice of the micro environment where it grows.
