I bought several orchids yesterday from a local nursery. All marked down severely. He buys them from a grower and if they don't sell, they are marked down. The one that is giving me a problem is labeled:
ShingFong Emperor 'Super Diamond' x Lc. Frontier Town red purple.
Any ideas as to the correct name or a link to a picture?
Thanks
Beverly A.
Cattleya Frontier Town,
had Synonym Genus Name Laeliocattleya.
Registrant Name Stewart Orch.
Originator Name Stewart Orch.
Date of registration 11/21/1994
Seed parent Cattleya Bonanza (Bracey)
Pollen parent CattleyaMattie Shave
It's probably a Blc, since the "Shinfong Emperor 'Super Diamond'" is a Blc.
Blc crossed with a Lc is a Blc!
Yep, except that if what I read on Orchidwiz is correct (haven't installed the last 2 updates yet, so data I have is from June), Shinfong Emperor's accepted genus is Rhyncholaeliocattleya, and Frontier Town's is Cattleya.
ShingFong Emperor has not been registered yet.

Charlie, on Orchidwiz Shinfong Emperor is listed as registered in 2001 by W-C Hung. However, the cross with Frontier Town is not registered, unless it has been in the last 6 months.

Thanks guys. I guess I'll just have to wait till it blooms to see what I got. It has already bloomed at the nursery so I know it is of sufficient size for a repeat bloom. Just so my lack of expertise doesn't retard it.

There are no photos of the parents in Orchidwiz, but there are photos of some grandparents and great grandparents. Both parents have Catts with large ruffled blooms in their background.
Color wise, on Shinfong's Emperor's side it's mainly reddish and salmon colored Catts. For Frontier Town's side they're all in the light-medium pinks. So you can probably except something pink and ruffly when it blooms!

Thanks Camille. Did you see that part of the name for Lc. Frontier Town was 'red purple'? Is that usual for the name of an orchid, or is that more just a description?
Thanks again to all who have (thus far) answered.
Beverly A.
red purple might be the name of a cultivar, but wasn't put in apostrophes, or it's just a color description that was added to the label. In any case, red purple describes the colors of its parentage very well!
