Ok, my mistake. Thanks for the correction Slipperfreak. The only term I had ever heard was multifloral, even in one of my orchid books (the others either don't cover phalaenopsis or avoid either term), and especially on the hybrids in the big-box stores. I suppose that last part should have tipped me off. The suppliers for those stores never get it right.
In my own research, I noticed a slight difference in usage regarding whether the "l" was added or not. For example, "multiflora" is used as "Phalaenopsis multiflora", like a mistaken scientific name, or "Multiflora Phalaenopsis", as in a type or group of hybrids. "Multifloral" was used in description of the spike habit to describe a tendency to branch and produce many relatively small flowers. I understand your being confused by the fact that most Phals are multifloral plants, but I always took it to mean that the branches produced multiple spikes, since it was quite obvious that nearly all phals produce more than one flower at a time. Perhaps it's a regional term more common where I live. SW Washington isn't exactly orchid central and I haven't looked at many vendors (lack of trust regarding online ordering, no money, and very little time on my part).
