At the end of last week I went to ski and when I'm back I've found this gift outside my kitchen window, left from a friend.
As always, in Italy, the florists are selling orchids without labels.
Can anyone confirm if my identification is correct? It's unusual that a florist have a botanic orchids, often hibrids, so I'm not sure about the species.
Nice surprise to find at your door.
Paph. primulinum is a multi-flowered, sequentially opening bloomer (lowest on inflorescence blooms first). Inflorescence is 4" - 12" tall. Your plant 'might' be the species primulinum (confirm by taxonomic study). Whatever it is, looks like you'll be enjoying the flowers for many weeks ahead.
It could also be a selfing of a Pinocchio that was made from a primulinum album. You would have to go back to the source to identify it with any certainty. Otherwise, you can only say what it looks like, and that shouldn't be confused with a positive ID.
Regards,
Rick
This doesn't look to be a true Paph. primulinum. This looks to possibly be that aurea form of Paph. Pinocchio, or as already said, Paph. Avalon Mist (Paph. Pinocchio x Paph. primulinum). The labellum and staminodial shield are more remnant to Paph. moquetteanum... do you have a picture of the overall plant or leaves? The leaves should be plain green with near unnoticeable black dots or slight veining (sometimes both). Still a great flower, nonetheless!
These pictures and measurements MAY give you an idea of what the plant might be. For judging (and breeding) purposes the ONLY authority is through taxonomic (DNA) verification.
Still, it's a lovely plant.
