Can anyone identify this orchid from the photo I took in Monteverde, Costa Rica?

Dear Connie,

Your plant is Epidendrum firmum, well known from Monteverde. It was once included in a very broadly defined E. difforme, a species now thought to be endemic to the Caribbean.

Hope that helps, Eric

Dear Connie,

I spent a weekend there during a long summer collectng specimens for the Museo Nacional and the Field Museum (Chicago). I particularly remember the fabulous carved door of the Pension Quetzal.

Hmm. I don't recall a Pension Quetzal. We usually stay at a Pension Manakin. It's probably under a new name now.
I just travel to Costa Rica when I can. My husband has an avocation/business building aerial bridges and platforms in forest canopies, mostly in the Peruvian Amazon. So he gets a lot of frequent flier miles with which we travel. We like to travel often and stay cheap. Costa Rica is as adventurous as I get. I've only been to Peru once.
