Orchid ID help?
Default Orchid ID help?

I received this orchid as a gift about two weeks ago. Since I don't know anything about orchids, I can't even tell what type it is, although I suspect it's some kind of cymbidium, based on the bloom shape. Any help you could provide so that I can identify him would be gratefully appreciated--I can't stand it when plants are unhappy or poorly cared for, and I can't spoil him until I know what he is!

After reading some of the other posts in this section, I tried to take pictures of any part of the plant that could be helpful in IDing him. Please let me know if there's a vital part I missed!

Looks like a miltassia!
miltonia x brassia
and quite a lovely one at that!
medium light and let the media just approach dry between waterings
I got my first mtssa last summer and its growing like a weed, so they seem quite easy to grow, and I have read they are good beginner plants as they can be a bit more forgiving of uneven watering than some others
Good luck and keep us posted!

Thank you so much for the identification and the rapid reply. I will certainly keep the board posted with the ongoing adventures of the orchid and the novice-- whether it be sheer panic regarding ailments real or imagined or pride in a blossom!

Your first orchid is a real beauty

You'll get the orchid bug for sure after this one.

I think it is definitely a Miltassia, maybe Miltassia Star Burst, I understand it can be quite variable though so it would be hard to make a concrete ID.

Looks quite like Miltassia Charles M. Fitch, after googling. Far from sure though. Nice plant!
