Is this an Encyclia Atropine?
Hi All,
Bought this plant at a silent auction at our Orchid Society. It's label says Spc Atropine, was wondering if someone out there could confirm that it is an Encyclia Atropine for sure, looks like it from the pics I see on Orchid wiz. Has a beautiful sweet smell. Thanks for your help.

Why are you doubting it? It looks beautiful too. Congratulations.

Swamper, just wanting to confirm as I was told that some of the labels on these auction plants may not be correct. Was labeled Spc Atropine, I'm pretty new to all this so not sure what the Spc stood for?! Too many abbreviations, too much to try to know sometimes! Thanks for looking.

If I bought it, being lazy like I am, I would have figured it's an Enc.Atropine and left it at that.Sometimes I try to read too fast and don't read a question right. That label Spc. sounds fishy to me too. Take a look in here and see if this helps.

Thanks Swamper, that's a handy little site that I will keep for future reference. For now, my plant will stay Enc. Atropine, and I will only worry about it if I win some wonderful award for it (yah right)!!!

Oh, and you're right that it looks like E. tampensis; E. Atropine = (Encyclia tampensis x Encyclia cordigera)

I'd say it's probably E. Atropine. If someone told me it's E. Atropine and showed me your pictures, I wouldn't doubt it in the least.
Does it smell of honey?

Thanks Sue for your confirmation. Yes, it probably does smell like honey now that you mention it....a very sweet smell. This plant has another spike with 4 or 5 more blooms coming, worth the few $$$$$$ I spent on it anyways.
