Default Cambria Barthley Schwarz

Hi there,

I got the pictured orchid from a garden centre from a Dutch supplier and their web site id'd it as Cambria Barthley Schwarz but when I checked out the RHS orchid register i couldn't find it - does anyone know what this is and what its proper name might be?

Unfortunately, in Europe, Oncidium related plants are called Cambrias. Vuylstekeara Cambria is a specific plant that is pretty unique.

Your plant is Miltonidium Bartley Schwartz.

Thank you so much, Phantasm, it's really good to know the proper name of a £4-00 orchid!! Plus it has a new flowering stem coming, so I will be able to check out the fragrance when they open.

I knew the Cambria bit was wrong, and the misspelling won't have helped my RHS search as their website is exact match only.

Thanks again

Just a correction here... It 's not a generalized true that all Oncidium related plants are called cambria in Europe! Tney are only generally called Cambria by the Mass production Nurseries especialized in selling their plants to supermarkets and big stores like IKea & Co. The reason for this generalization is that they all (those called "Cambria", which are not all Ondicidium related plants!) have similar cultural needs as Vuylstekeara Cambria and the instructions are intended for most people who has no further interest in orchids than just haviong nice flowers for a period of time (and then they put the plant in the trash)

Outside that market, all plants receive the correct name as accepted in Botany and Horticulture...
