I agree, it is a spathoglottis of some sort. it is VERY beautiful!!!

found it... it could be a Spathoglottis plicata as described on IOSPE PHOTOS

and already there are ants on the plant - wonder what are the ants for? and how does the plant benefit from ants as desribed on the article "This species is often found in conjunction with ants and may benefit from their presence"? polination?

haven't read the artile but do you mean ants on the flower spike? Alot of orchids subcrete a sticky substance to attract and feed the ants, then the ants stop any other pest going to eat the flowers.
Spaths are ground orchids aren't they? growing in a more soil mix than bark?

That's a special flower indeed! Agree with the others that it's like a spathoglottis.
