Very good guess Roy. This was a fun and practical game. Certainly helped me brush up on using RHS database.
Melissa, where did you buy your Ascda. Su-Fun Beauty? Is there a clonal name for your plant? When you buy a plant, the clonal name is important as it may distinguish plants grown from seed from plants that are mericlones.
When plants are seed-grown, the offspring vary considerably from each other - literally, no two siblings are (exactly) alike. With a mericlone, the 'baby' is the exact duplicate of the 'parent' plant.
Things get complicated when plants are judged and awarded.
If a plant is grown from seed, the exhibitor has the right to give his newly awarded plant a clonal name that stays with that plant (and any mericlones made from it) forever.
An example: you take your Ascda. Su-Fun Beauty to a judging center where it receives an HCC award, you could give it a clonal name - 'Roy's Best Guess' Your plant (and any of its mericloned offspring) would be forever known as Ascda, Su-Fun Beauty 'Roy's Best Guess' HCC/AOS. Awards can go higher (AM, AOS) but root name stays the same.
Incidentally, there are 4 AOS awards, most recent being in 2004 to Ascda. Su-Fun Beauty 'Home Depot' HCC/AOS. I suspect that you have the clone 'Orange Belle' which has been widely distributed in nurseries and big box stores since the mid to late 90's.
This is more info than anyone 'asked' for but hopefully clears up some mystery surrounding orchids' names.
