Hi everyone,

I'd really appreciate it if someone could help identify this orchid.

The plant belongs to my boyfriend's mom and she told me that it is an orchid. However, ever since they've received it from a friend while it was in bloom, they haven't been able to get it to bloom again.

Pic 1: The location of the plant in the house. It is near a south-facing skylight.

Pic 2 & 3: The plant

Pic 4: The medium that it was in BEFORE it was repotted this Thurs. I assume it's been in this medium for a few years now.

Pic 5: The medium it is in now. It was repotted on Thursday, May 21

My questions:

a) What is it???

b) Is it repotted correctly?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

I'm pretty sure it's a Clivia. They like free draining soil. They are easy to grow. I have had one for 10 years and it grows in the house in the winter and outside in the shade in the summer.

I say clivia as well. We used to have one of these at our country house. It spent most of the year indoors in a bright window with no direct sun, and then was in bright shade during the summer. In the winter it would hardly get any water and the house was only 10°C since no one goes there during the cold months. It would usually bloom late spring. But it died 2 years ago when we forgot to bring it in before the first freeze, which came early It's sad, my grandma had bought it over 15 years ago... She was very upset to lose it.

This is very definitely not an orchid but a Clivia (Kaffir Lily). It will bloom late spring, but likes to be pot bound - don't repot it too often. It will grown in fairly low light (we have ours at a north window).
