Hello All,
This orchid was recently given to a friend of mine and she's wondering what it is and what to do with it. Thanks in advance for any ideas & suggestions!

looks to me like an oncidium type - intergeneric ?
maybe some odotoglossum in it
some one else may have better knowledge than myself
but shouldn't be too hard to grow
mine do well in a west window - let it get towards being dry before watering (not completely dry)
I'm with Rabbit. She covered pretty much what I was going to say I also agree that it's quite pretty.
It should be a good windowsil plant. I'd protect it from direct sun, especially in the afternoon though. Intergenerics seems to be pretty easy growers.
Oncidium intergenerics include
Aliceara - Mtssa x Onc often called Miltassia
Beallara - Mtssa x Oda
Brassada - Ada x Brs
Brassidium - Onc x Brs
Burrageara - Vuyl x Onc (other versions: 'Cambria')
Colmanara -
Maclellanara - Odcdm x Brs
Vuylstekeara -
Wilsonara - Onc x Oda
I don't have the same plant but I grow my Oncidium intergenic at intermediate temperatures. My experience told me that they are happy with temps as low as 14 C, mabye lower, I'm, not sure about that.
During growing season they like colder nights. It's said that this helps them to flower. Were I live they can grow outdoors from the end of May until late September. The thrive under a tree, or a shaded spot with only morning and evening sun.
Other people wrote that growing in a window sill is not a problem as long as night temps are lower than the day temps. An open window could provide enough temperature difference between night and day.
They are pretty easy to care for and once you get the hang of it, they grow like weed!
