Default New Guinea NOIDs again

Well, for those who are willing to help, here are a few more NOIDs I've got growing in my yard, found locally (5000ft, New Guinea Highlands). Would love to know what they are! Several mentioned last time I posted that I should look at the orchidspng site. Unfortunately our internet is so expensive (priced per MB ) I can't sift through all the photos - if anyone can help with species here it makes life a lot easier!

So here goes - hopefully the thumbnails link to larger pictures in my gallery.

1) A common terrestrial orchid around here:

2) A dendrobium clearly pretty similar to polysema (this one was in a clump with it, but has no spots and few hairs)

3) This one was beautiful and huge by comparison to the rest of mine...

The rest are all minis I guess...

4)Two photos of this lovely orange one.

5) These are a couple of millimetres across...

6) This is a bit bigger...

7) These flowers reminded me of some diplocaulobiums I have, but the foliage is totally different.

8) This grows underneath the stubby leaves at the end of a long cane.

9) And finally a dendrobium, I know not which...

Thanks in anticipation for your help!

Phil

1. Spathoglottis sp. (maybe plicata)
4. Oberonia sp. (don't know what species)
7. Maybe a new species of Thrixspermem? Need to see what the plant looks like.
8. Maybe a species of Glossorhyncha. Need to see the plant.

Thanks king!

Especially for directing me to Oberonia, I'm sure that is correct.

Now, I've added pictures of the plant for 7 and 8.

7)

8)

Still holding out for any clues on number (3),

Thanks,
Phil

Phil,
I can't help with the identification but the photos of the orchids in their natural settings are very interesting. Thanks for posting all the photos here and in your photo gallery.

7 & 8 appear to be two different species of Glossorhyncha.

I've grown Glossorhynchas and the growth habit and foliage is exactly like 7 & 8.

Glossorhynchas are not popular in cultivation. Not much is described in terms of what species are out there and how to cultivate them. If 7 & 8 are truly Glossorhynchas, then I couldn't tell you why there's such a large difference in flower types.

Hey Phil,

1. Spathoglottis
2. Dendrobium forbesii
3. Cattleya alliance hybrid
4. Oberonia
5. ? Podochilus
6. Pedilochilus (Bulbophyllum relative)
7. Dendrobium (section Grastidium)
8. Dendrobium (section Grastidium)
9. Dendrobium

Dendrobium section Grastidium, sometimes treated as a separate genus, always produces flowers in pairs on a leafy stem.

Hope that helps, Eric

Thanks Eric,

I'm thoroughly convinced no.7 is a dendrobium from section grastidium - looked at loads of photos on the IOSPE site (Internet Orchid Species Photo Encyclopedia) and this one seems near identical to the photo of dendrobium dionaeoides, except for the coloration being different. Thanks!

Here's another one just coming into bloom in my yard - any clues on this?

Thanks again,
Phil
