I don't have a clue as to the name of your phal, but it sure is pretty.

It reminds me of my P. amabilis, which has quite similar leaves (though a bit longer). The shape is also much like amabilis, though the flowers appear to have a tint of yellow in them while amabilis is a pure white. Most likely it's going to have to be put into the NoID hybrid category, but it's a lovely flower!

I am sure that this one's parent was from Taiwan.
You can give it the name as " P. Amabilis from Formosa".
But it is not the species or the jungle type. The pure P. amabilis var. formosa almost disappeared in the wild in 1960's. This type is closer to P. aphrodite. Some botanist named it as P. aphrodite var. formosana.
Many decades this species were crossed and comercialized. The shape of leaves inherite from the original species, which grew in a small island called " Lanyu".(orchid islet) They were usually found in banyan trees. After the long term of evolution, their leaves imitate as look as banyan leaves, especially when they were young.

Yes, it s P. aphrodite subsp. formosana. For some reason the Taiwanese are very stubborn about changing the name from P. amabilis even though botanists have agreed it is P. aphrodite since around 1970.

Hope that helps, Eric

Could be Phal aphrodite. The details with the lip and the tails on the end of the lip with the markings will help you tell the difference between Phal aphrodite and Phal amabilis. There's a relatively recently published book out there totally dedicated to Phalaenopsis, and there are many nice color photos of many hybrids and some species. Inside there's a section with drawings of different Phalaenopsis lips which are numbered and identified, that show the sometimes subtle nuances of the differences in lip structure bewteen different kinds of Phals. Unfortunately I forgot what the title of the book or the author was. It seems like a good book for the Phalaenopsis afficionado.

Could possibly be a species or a primary cross.

You can most likely find the book in any one of your favorite major bookstore chains like Borders or Barnes & Nobles in the gardening section.
