OK, this is weird. I got this cymbidium at The Home Depot a few years ago. It lives outside by the koi pond and it's doing fine. In fact it's in spike right now. I'm sorry I don't have any pictures at the moment, but here's the deal: The tag in the pot reads: "Pearl Balk Is The Bride." That's it. No amount of Googling has helped me here. Any of you geniuses have any suggestions or clues? I would really appreciate any help y'all can give me. Thanks!
Ray
Ray:
There is a Cym. Pearl registered, so it would be conceivable that 'Balk is the Bride' would be a clonal designation...though it is likely best to assume that this is a NOID plant.

Thanks for the reply. I've also considered the possibility that "Balk is the Bride" might be another one of those amusing Chinese-to-English translations...
Wouldn't the fact that it has a tag mean it's not a NOID in the strictest sense? (Not that it really matters, I will love it just like the rest of my 'chids.)
Hmm...in the strictest sense you may be right, though there's also the possibility that it is an unregistered cross as well...the Japanese are notorious for naming plants without registering the crosses...
