Please identify this orchid
Hi,
My wife recently bought this orchid which came with a helpful pot label which said "orchid".
Any help in identifying it would be grateful received. Am I right in thinking it's a dendrobium?
Any help with caring for it would also be welcome. It has started to lose leaves (which have yellowed) from the spikes. Should the bare spikes be left once flowering has finished? It's in a sunny, centrally heated room but not in full sun.
Many thanks for your help.
Regards,
Trevor

Trevor !!!! First of all to the OB !!!! Now on to your orchid. If the leaves are falling down it could certainly be a dendrobium but just to make sure it would be great if you could post some . Here is a link on how to do that. http://www.orchidboard.com/community...chidboard.html . This way it will be much easier for us to identify it.

Hi,
many thanks for the incredibly quick reply. I meant to load up photos but missed the advanced options. I've now loaded them as attachments to the orginal thread posting.
Best wishes,
Trevor

Many thanks Dorothy. Is this the correct forum to ask more questions about caring for it? As I said in the original post a lot of the leaves have yellowed and fallen leaving bare spikes. Should these spikes be left on the plant or cut back? Watering hints would also be welcome or a pointer to where I can read more.
Many thanks for your help,
Trevor

The spikes, where the blooms are, should be cut down once the flowers fall off. The canes, which are the tall portion of the plant that carries the leaves should be left...they are the source of water/nutrition storage.
