Question Id Mystery / Vietnamese mini w/ Chocolate Scent

This is a long shot but maybe someone out there knows this one.

I don't have a photo...the orchid is long ago dead...hubby wants another one.

Here is the information we have. Orchid supposedly originates from Vietnam. Monopodial in growth, micro mini blooms (2cm), lavender/might have had a little white in the column and/or labellum, lightly scented of Chocolate.

Plant was blooming sized at 2"-3" across and 3" tall. Slow grower and mounted. Needed high humidity.

The guy who gave it to us a long time ago said it was a species and not a hybrid.

They bloom only up to 5 buds per spike evenly spaced and not clustered tight. The spike is firm and grows only about 3" long. The flowers lasted only about 2 weeks. The flowers were close to the spike maybe with a 1/4" stem. Usually single spiked but once it put out 2.

The leaves are thin in width and fan like very similar to the neostylis BUT with the notch on the end of the leaf tip very similar to the Anc. Didieri. Very dark green leaves both on the upper and lower sides. The leaves were stiff too.

Any ideas?

Sounded vandaceous, so I looked it up in my db, but there are at least 175 vandaceous species in Vietnam. I might be able to reduce that further by eliminating some genera, but I'll have to get back to that later.

OK, these might be two possibilities:

Stereochilus dalatensis
Ptreoceras semiteretifolium

The picture I'm posting is from Orchid Wiz of the dalatensis.

The really great news is, if you're looking for one of these you can get it at Andy's Orchids - Orchid Species - Stereochilus - dalatensis.

Hope this helps!

Dana! That is it!

Stereochilus dalatensis

Though I don't know about the scent...hubby says he remembers that light chocolate scent...but you never know with orchids...

He seems 90% sure this is the one. Thanks!
