Hi Everyone

Can you tell me what Dendrobium this is? I bought it here in Bangkok yesterday. I am told it is hard to kill and lasts for ages.

Brett

I'm not sure of the variety of that Dendrobium, but i can confirm that it is a hardy plant IF you don't over water it.

Looks like you have it inside? They also love to have a lot of sun too.

I was about to say !!! That plant is not alive. It's a silk imitation or so it looks like one to me.

Thais in Bangkok are making them out of a ceramic polymer like this one now. Yes, many look almost real. It depends on the artist. I had a Laelia Purpurata Var. Werkhauserii made 3 years ago for a friend, and next to the real thing from 6 feet it was hard to tell it was fake. Closer and you can see the parts are a bit thicker.

Sadly, I went to the same seller requesting a harlequin phalaenopsis recently and they couldn't pull it off. The shape was perfect, but not the right colouring.

I think this dendrobium is a copy of a Thai species. I'd like to know what one. I will post the website for the maker tomorrow - they have other pics.

Sorry for joking around with you guys... I was waiting for someone too catch me out.

Brett
