Help with a cattleya identification
Default Help with a cattleya identification

My first post was on the intro board and now on the ident board. All in one day.

Anyway, can anyone identify this cattleya. I once had the name and then lost it. It blooms for me every spring around Easter. I do have it under artificail light for 16 hours per day so that might change the bloom season. It has a fragrance which i call a spice/vanilla which is stronger in the morning.

Thank you for any help.

I am not a Cattleya species grower but my guess is that it is a Cattleys species. Looks like a possible C. Labiata or Mossiae. Maybe some of the Cattleya species growers will have some input. There are so many varieties of the same species that it takes an expert to figure it out.

It's always hard to accurately identify a plant once the tag is lost. I'm sorry I can't be helpful with the ID, but it's very beautiful.

This isn't a species, but may be a primary hybrid. Almost impossible to identify, though.

Thanks for the replies. I have two of these orchids and last year they had 78 blossoms between the two. This year looks to be more of the same. I'll post a picture when they fill out.

Properly groomed and the blooms staked so that they show to their best advantage, it certainly could have gotten an AOS award. HOWEVER, one must know the name of a given plant. There are so many crosses today it is practically impossible without DNA testing. It is a beautiful plant, so enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!
