Can anyone help me ID this unusual Phal? I just bought it at our local WalMart. I've never seen one before with such an unusual shape. The colors in the photo are very accurate, it's a vibrant green with coral/pink.
Hi, Gloria! That sure is a beautiful Phal you picked up! LOVE the color combo. Can't say I can help you out in the ID department, but you mentioned its unusual shape. This is what would be called a peloric flower.
I'm glad you like the flower. It really is gorgeous in person. Thanks so much for the flower definition. I really appreciate it. I didn't even know there was a term for that type of flower.
Wow I've seen peloric flowers, but this one is probably the most peloric I've ever seen. Peloric means that the two petals mimick the lip. I have read that peloria (if that's a word?) doesn't happen in every bloom. Next time it blooms it could have totally normal blooms or they could be peloric again. I think since it is so peloric it is going to be hard to tell what exact hybrid it might be. It is very pretty though!
Wow! I love pelorics, aspecially Phals, and this is one of the best I've seen too. Check this out for a few more examples. Peloric Phalaenopsis - Big Leaf Orchids
definately a nice flower.. i was looking at peloric orchids and the one that had a photo.. diff color but same shape. .. they wanted well over 100 bucks for it.. you got a deal on that one if it blooms true each spike
