Pre ordered a Dendrobium but how do i know if its really a Dendrobium... Female
Default Pre ordered a Dendrobium but how do i know if its really a Dendrobium...

The ladies at the store called me and said it was there and that I could come pick it up...but when i went in yesterday to look at it, there was a Phal marker in the pot and was beside 2 other Phals and to my orchidly untrained eye they all looked the same. I knew it was the one i had pre ordered because they told me it was going to be sage green...
i didnt have my camera with me and snapping a pick in the store would have been too awkward so i've looked through the gallery and found what looks very similar to the orchid in the shop.
Does anyone know if this is in fact a Dendrobium?
The ladies at the shop were so nice to order it for me and i feel bad not wanting it if its not really a Dendrobium.

Yep, that's a Dendro. Not a Phal. Perhaps label was wrong?

No question at all about its being a Dendrobium and not a Phalaenopsis.

I wanted one of the less "floofy orchids" I want a "mini" one but the shop owners said that they can only get Phals and Dendrobiums.

How does the plant itself look? A phal has big oval somewhat floppy leaves. A dendrobium has canes, and looks radically different from a phal plant. Also, are you sure the tag said just phalaenopsis? The pic you show is a Den dendrobium Phalaenopsis, so maybe you could see only part of the name on the tag.

argh im really not sure you guys but keep in mind thats not the actual plant in the shop, its from the gallery here in the forum, from how I remember it looking.
And i just finished reading about NOIDs? I live in a tiny rural town in cold central Ontario, not exactly orchid central...
What if its actually a NOID and im too much of an amature to kNOID the difference. lol

I know that the photo is not of the actual plant in the shop. That is why I was saying that you should look at the foliage of the plant in question to be certain of the genus.

As for it being a NOID, there's nothing wrong with that,(unless you plan on breeding/showing the plant) if you really like the Dendrobium! Just to clarify (since I was confused by your post), a NOID is a plant that we don't know the hybrid name of. It's easy to guess the genus by looking at it (Phal, Den, Cattleya, etc...) but you can't know the name of the hybrid unless there is a tag in the pot mentioning it (or get the plant from a grower who knows what it is.)
