Myst you say you are from central ontario? Whereabouts? I live in peterborough and i know what you mean about it being hard to get your hands on some good chids. I actually found a place in ptbo that will let me order chids from them but i havent ordered any yet. Its taken me about 5-6 years to get my hands on 5 different kinds of chids, seems all they sell are Phals around here. The second i see anything other than a Phal i HAVE TO HAVE IT cause its so rare.
Yup I'm in Port Colborne a small place about 30 minutes from Niagara Falls. I've just been scouring the classifieds and asking if they'd deliver to canada...in a big city like Toronto perhaps we'd have better luck there?
have you ever tried mailordering any?
I'm willing to try but on here i only see US vendors.
Aloha - that looks like a "phalenopsis type" dendrobium - very common in Hawaii - other den types would be antelope, nobile, New Guinea
very nice color
ok now im really confused do you mean a Dendrobium phaleanopsis
Bare with me im still trying to figure out this capitalization thing....
There are many different kinds of Dendrobiums, one being Dend. phaleanopsis. The flowers very closely look like Phal. flowers so hence, the name. Yours is definitely a Dend. which can be identified just by the infloresence these flowers are on. Phals and Dends are very different looking and no mistaking, once you've seen both. Phals are monopodial, the rhizome is erect and it's leaves grow on each side of the rhizome. Dends. typically grow pseudobulbs (with leaves) and grow along a rhizome that's usually parallel.
