Ok I think you're right. The pictures of the Miltonias look very familiar to me. I still can't find that picture (hasn't flowered in a long time) which is unfortunate but the more pictures of Miltonia flowers I look at the more I think that's it. It sounds like Miltonia appreciate wet coniditions as well.

From the care sheet: "When they are not getting enough water or humidity, the leaves have a tendency to grow with accordionlike pleats." which I have seen on this plant so I will continue "heavy" watering to try and get a flower to confirm the ID (though I may have set it back a year with my early repotting )

(And now I think I want the variety pictured in the care sheet )

Only question is do they have pseudobulbs like the ones on my plant?

Yes, Miltonias do have bulbs like your plant does, so your plant might be one!

The photo you posted is of an intergeneric cross from the oncidium alliance . While it is true that they get accordion-like pleats in the leaves from insufficient water or humidity, you still have to be careful about overwatering, especially if the root system is not what it should be. Higher humidity is the best option, then. Temp should probably be on the cooler end.

I use terms like "heavy watering" loosely with orchids

Cool temps are no problem (right now especially).

I'll look for a more precise ID later on if I can get it to flower, just looking for culture info right now with this ID so I can get it to flower.

Actually even the Miltonia ID is in question... I showed a picture to my mom and she said "Oh, didn't we get rid of one of those?" (extremely bad scale on that one plant) - now the plant she was referring to had a tag saying it was an oncidium, but there's always a chance that tag had gotten placed in the wrong pot (I'm leaning towards a small chance here but keeping an open mind about it)

Plant looks like a coelogyne with the little round bulbs(were the flowers mainly white?) but they don't have flowers like you posted. Them flowers look like miltona or oncinium's. I don't think it's a zygo...just my opinon!

When I mentioned an Oncidium intergeneric that includes Miltonia and other related genera. The flower picture you posted looked to me as though it had both Oncidium and Miltonia in it, possibly also Odontoglossum and/or Brassia.

Wow, so it turns out when I was looking for the picture I looked everywhere... except on my camera This shot was taken Mid August.

You can also see some of the back bulbs from the plant pre-repotting here (one of these is the plant I mentioned I'm growing out using the sphag-n-bag method.

Definitely a Miltonia (actually a Miltoniopsis).

hhhmmmmm..... that lip, is not from Zygos... too much of Miltonia in it

check for Miltonidium.. either Miltonidium Bartley Schwartz Miltonidium Bartley Schwarz 'Highland', AM/AOS at Santa Barbara Orchid Estate or Miltonidium Red Brick Road http://www.clownalleyorchids.com/Mtd...Road%20500.jpg or a similar cross...
