Two unknown's...
I have 2 orchids that I need identified if possible please.
The one that is flowering I believe is a Phalaenopsis of some sort, and the other I think might be a cattelya.
Can anyone identify either of these for me?
Thank you....I might need to upload them again. My preview didn't look good.

Well, it may be difficult for people to give you the exact ID on the Phalaenopsis hybrid, but an exact ID on the other with out a bloom to go by will be impossible. However, I could be wrong, but I think the second is probably not a Cattleya but something in the Oncidium alliance.

yep, the second one is definately from the Oncidium alliance. both will be nearly impossible to identify, even with flowers.

Thank you both 'why' and 'lam', I appreciate your responses. I'm curious though, is it hard to tell exactly what types they are because of what they are crossed with?

The Phal. looks a lot like Phal. Brother Sara Gold Sogo, which is a popular hybrid. The second one is definitely Oncidium alliance. Here's a pic of the Phal.: http://www.oakhillgardens.com/images...raGoldSogo.jpg

If you could get a better and more close-up of the flower we could narrow it down on the Phal.
It could be a Phal.
1. Brother Pepride
2. Brother Sara Gold
3. Gold Tris
So a more close-up of the flower would help.

The difficulty in identifying hybrids without names is huge, (1) because there are thousands of hybrids, and (2) because there are so many variations even within a hybrid cross. A hybrid without a name is almost certainly going to remain that way, though you can certainly tell that the first plant is a Phalaenopsis and the second most likely something in the Oncidium group. Any names ofr specific hybrids that you are given will be only guesses.

Roland, I think #3 is more like mine than the other two....there's more yellow and there weren't as may spots as the other's have. Here's the close up.
