Cool Mystery Orchid

I bought this orchid @ a Master Gardener's sale this past spring. It came completely unmarked, but the plant itself is very big. I've babied this orchid so much that it has finally bloomed. The only problem is I do not and cannot find what genus/type that it is? Or if is completely open ? It didn't or doesn't begin blooming as normal orchid does. It has 5 leaves, and it's complete need of a transplant come spring. So can you identify the type of orchid that itis?

thanks so much
ali

Hi Orchids4dummies,

That plant is in the Cattleya Alliance group of plants, but I can not tell for certain the exact type. The blooms look like they are completely open to me...and they are quite beautiful.

If you are wondering about plant culture, I would treat it like any standard cattleya.

David is right - it's a Cattleya, probably a hybrid. Beyond that, I can't be of much help. Someone will recognize it though. Maybe a close-up of the flower may help.

Congrats on blooming it! It is stunning, and just my style. I love green flowers! Nice growing and welcome to the OB!
